Al A compact light source that uses low‐cost commercially available lasers to generate visible light for etendue‐limited applications is presented. The key element is a phosphor‐based optical cavity that converts 405nm/445nm laser light into specklefree red, green, blue or white light at a selected etendue. Theoretical and experimental results are reported.
