This paper reports on the possibilities of predicting the angular distribution of electron backscattering from multicomponent specimens by use of a mean atomic number which is derived from the atomic or mass concentrations of the elements. It is found that Büchner's model using a quadratic weighed average of the atomic numbers is suitable although it is only based on single scattering.
