Nefertiti Takla — a doctoral student at the University of California, Los Angeles — reported in 2013 to the university's Title IX coordinator, Pamela Thomason, that her dissertation advisor had been sexually harassing her for two years. Thomason purportedly discouraged Takla from filing a written request for a formal investigation, stating her advisor's peers might side with him. According to Takla, Thomason convinced her a truncated process called “Early Resolution” would be more efficient and would eliminate the need for Takla to testify before the academic senate.
