Organizational thresholds, the joints where one aspect of the university fits into another, can sometimes be the weakest link when providing services to constituents. But those joints can also be the most important. One university investigated how to improve those distinct units and the connecting transition points while boosting service along the way. Calling it a life cycle of engagement, the university set out to infuse a student service ethic into its advancement and alumni operations and a philanthropic ethic from advancement into its student services culture.
