A method is given for showing that formal “approximate solutions” of non‐linear differential equations are in fact the leading terms in an asymptotic representation of actual solutions. Examples are given to show how the method is applied. Because of the great diversity in the form of solutions the presentation of a method is much simpler than the inevitably complicated statement of theorems.
