The time‐dependent properties of the flow generated by a small disturbance of a rigidly rotating, compressible, non‐dissipative fluid in a gravitational field are derived, without restricting the spacial dependence of the gravitational field or the shape of the rigid container. The conserved quantities are used to characterize in a new way the time‐independent portion of the flow in terms of data from the initial disturbance.
