The paper deals with model predictive control of a class of non‐smooth nonlinear systems, namely piecewise affine systems. A novel procedure for solving the associated optimal control problem is presented and its convergence established. Stability properties of the closed‐loop system using model predictive control with the new algorithm are derived. Examples illustrate the proposed algorithm for determining optimal control of constrained piecewise affine systems and the performance of the closed‐loop system.
