Domestic and international cooperation in the field of contaminated‐site management has increaseddramatically in the past decade. The expected benefits of this cooperation include the reduction of duplicationin remediation efforts, the coordination of contaminated‐site research, improved synergy between variousstakeholders, enhanced policy development, and better information dissemination and technology transfer. Thisarticle identifies and briefly discusses key domestic and international collaborations, partnerships, andnetworks relating to contaminated‐site management and remediation. Also provided is information on how theforums can be accessed. Common themes identified across the forums discussed in this article include(1) the development and demonstration of innovative technologies, (2) the use of riskassessment, (3) the use of toxicology, bioavailability, and ecotoxicity testing, and (4) theincreasing need to find holistic approaches for managing contaminated sites, such as guaranteed remediationprograms and transfer of environment liability, and the need for understanding implications of remediationfinancing mechanisms. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
