The monthly statistical distribution of foF 2 and M (3000) F 2, based on 16 years of Washington data, were found to differ significantly from normal. The two‐term Gram‐Charlier series (Type A ) is proposed as a statistical model for the monthly distributions, since it provides a better fit to observed data than the normal distribution.
