Photodissociation of mass‐selected ions in a crossed‐beam setup with a pulsed excimer laser (248 nm) is described. The mass‐to‐charge ratios of the photodissociation products are determined using the mass analyzing quadrupole Q of a hybrid mass spectrometer consisting of a double‐focusing (BE) part followed by two quadrupoles to give BEqQ geometry. Technical aspects of the experiment, as well as experimental results of the photodissociation of the radical cations of toluene, norbornadiene and cycloheptatriene, are presented.
