Abstract Differences in the electron ionization mass spectra of 4,5‐bis(alkylthio)‐1,3‐dithiol‐2‐ones and 4,5‐bis(alkylthio)‐1,2‐dithiol‐3‐ones have been studied by metastable analysis and collision‐induced dissociation. Analogies in the spectra are due to the presence of common [M—CO] +· ions rather than to isomerization of molecular ions.
