The collision‐induced mass spectra of the o ‐methyl and o ‐ethylphenoxide anions show loss of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, respectively. These processes are rationalized in terms of a reversible rearrangement o ‐RC 6 H 4 O − ⇌ [(C 6 H 4 ) − OR] (R = alkyl).
