The negative ions of cis ‐ and trans ‐Diels‐Alder adducts of p‐benzoquinones and glucofuranodienes enable these stereoisomers to be differentiated because the cis ‐ isomers undergo a highly‐favoured retro‐Diels‐Alder reaction.
