The ion/molecule equilibria method was applied to study negative ions while U 3 O 8 was being vaporized. No UO 3 −opms were found. This has led to the conclusion that the electron affinity (EA) of UO 3 is less than 205kJ mol −1 , in complete contradiction to Gurvich's prediction that EA(UO 3 )=500±50kJ mol −1 .
