The base peak ( m / z 55, C 3 H 3 O + ) in the mass spectrum of cyclohexanone is shown to be formed by a number of processes, viz from the molecular radical cation, from [MC 2 H 4 ] + ˙ species, and from an [MC 3 H 6 ] + ˙ ion. The ion C 4 H 7 +(the minor contributor to m / z 55) is formed by at least five routes from the molecular ion.
