The effusion method, together with mass spectral analysis, has been used to study ion/molecule equilibria involving the negative ion BF   4 − . The experimental data obtained have made it possible to calculate enthalples for the reactions:and the enthalpy of formation ΔH f (BF   4 − , 298) as ( −1716±8) kj/mol. The fluorine anion affinity of BF 3 has been determined as FA((BF 3 )g, 298)=(331±8)kj/mol −1 and compared with Literature data.
