Charge stripping of a neutral acetone beam, C 3 H 6 O, produced by the unimolecular fragmentation of a proton‐bound dimer by the reaction [(C 3 H 6 O) 2 H] + → C 3 H 6 O +[C 3 H 7 O] + , was studied for various target gases. The singly‐charged acetone ions, formed after charge stripping of the neutral acetone beam, contained a significant amount of internal energy (dependent on the collision gas), and its distribution was measured. Collision cross‐sections, total and partial, were measured for charge stripping of acetone neutrals. Comparison of the present results with electron‐transfer processes was also made.
