This article gives an improved derivation for U ( n 1 + n 2 ) ⊃ U ( n 1 ) × U ( n 2 ), SN 1 + N 2 ⊃ SN 1 × SN 2 , and other transformation coefficients by using a series of elementary Racah transformations. These transformation coefficients can be expressed generally in terms of a product of segments containing 6 j symbols and easily calculated. Possible segment factors are given in Table I. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
