A full theoretical treatment of electron capture processes using ab initio configuration interaction methods within a semiclassical collisional formalism has been developed. An application to closed‐ and open‐shell systems is presented on the example of oxygen‐ion/He collisions. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
