The recently developed connected moment expansions ( CMXS ) for the ground state energy are tested on an exactly soluble N ‐body problem. For a weak correlation limit the second order CMXS reproduce the correlation energy exactly, whereas for a strong correlation limit they account for half of the correlation energy. Going to higher orders, the CMX ‐ LT approximation appears to be the most effective one. The results indicate that the CMX technique should be promising for the calculation of the correlation energy of other systems.
