A survey of recent developments in the theory and experimental knowledge of charged interfaces is discussed in relation to the problem of electron transfer reactions. An attempt is made to reformulate the role of the solvent in bulk phase and at surfaces. Furthermore we discuss the effect of position‐dependent tunneling on the reaction rate constant assuming simple distribution of the ions near the metallic interface.
