General principles of NMR spectroscopy of oriented molecules are described. The use of the technique to problems of biological importance is discussed with emphasis on theoretical and experimental difficulties involved. Application of the technique to study the structure and the hindered rotation in N ‐methylimidazole and phenyl silane, to investigate interactions of small molecules with lyotropic liquid crystals, to determine covalent and van der Waals radii, and to estimate non‐planar distortions in amides are described.
