Static dipole and quadrupole polarizability (α d and α q , respectively) values of coupled Hartree–Fock quality have been calculated for the alkaline earth atoms Be(2 s ), Mg(3 s ), Ca(4 s ), and Sr(5 s ) using a method based on the many‐body perturbation theory. The present values of α d and α q for Be and α d for Mg are in excellent agreement with the other available results of similar accuracy. The CHF calculations of α d for Sr and α q for Mg, Ca, and Sr are being reported for the first time.
