The Heitler‐London description of the covalent bond in H 2

We show that there is a natural correspondence between the Heitler London energy expressions for H 2 and an energy expression based on localized wave functions. We use this correspondence and rather accurate localized wave functions to verify the Heitler‐London explanation of covalent bonding in H 2 .
