We calculated the Verdet constant of the hydrogen molecule. We found that the angle of rotation may be represented by ϕ 0 = A 0 Hv 2 /( v   0 2− v 2 ) 2 where A 0 is 3.23 × 10 −33 microminutes sec 2 per oersted‐cm‐atmosphere. This is in agreement with the experimental observations where ϕ 0 is given by the same frequency dependence with the constant A 0 × 2.72 = 10 −33 in terms of the same units.
