The quenching of perdeuterated naphthalene by paramagnetic ions in solid matrices of ethyl alcohol is observed by us. The results show that the decay curves are not exponential and the decay rate depends on the concentrations of paramagnetic ions. To interpret the experimental data, we assume as with Hoijtink that the interaction between the triplet state molecule and the paramagnetic ion is of the exchange type interaction. Theoretical expressions for decay function, relative yield, mean duration etc., are derived. The theoretical expressions derived correlate the experimental data very well.
