Many‐electron atom calculations are analyzed. It is proved that for neutral atoms to a good approximation the electron–electron interaction energy is a constant multiple of the electron–nucleus interaction energy. A consequence of the above theorem is that the total energy of these atoms shows a very simple dependence on the atomic number.
