We establish a linkage between mean time to system recovery (MTTSR) in fault‐tolerant repairable systems and the mean residual life (MRL) concept. Specifically we show that the MTTSR is equal to the MRL of time to repair when the time to failure of the redundant component is fixed. Several examples are provided to illustrate the two concepts.
