The periodical renewal of spare parts in a manufacturing system is optimized by a novel approach using the well‐known Weibull distribution. In essence, this is achieved by the use of a geometrical stepping in the description of the reliability to the points of renewal, hence, the spare parts required in the system to achieve the reliability target are then determined.
