A recent three‐dimensional numerical model of a tropical cumulonimbus cloud by Miller and Pearce has been adapted to temperate latitudes and it has been found that the mode of development is substantially altered. the tropical cloud has a fairly smooth development whereas the temperate‐latitude cloud is built up by successive thermals. Several integrations have been run and three particularly interesting cases are presented.
