Abstract A convection parameterization scheme recently incorporated into the Meteorological Office 10‐level model is described. A one‐dimensional cloud model incorporating entrainment and detrainment, together with a simple representation of cloud microphysics, is used to provide heat and moisture fluxes for the predictive equations of the parameterization. Results of the scheme in operational use are presented.
