In Barbados, albedo values for bare soil surfaces varied according to colour, the moisture condition of the surface layer, the presence of limestone concretions and the roughness of the surface. The albedo of sugar cane increased with crop height until the leaves reached complete cover. The albedo of vegetation, but not bare soil, depended on the zenith angle of the sun. The albedo of vegetation and cane trash was larger under clear skies than under overcast. The estimated mean albedo of Barbados was 16·5 per cent.
