Evidence is presented to support the assumption that the divergence of horizontal flux of momentum due to large‐scale eddies has a sinusoidal variation of the same period as, but with a phase difference from, the zonal wind oscillation of approximately 26 months. The phase difference appears to be about μ/2 with the divergence wave preceding the zonal wind wave. The evidence is not regarded as conclusive.
