Results of a study of about 70 spectra of the horizontal components of gustiness in strong winds are described. From these and other published data the following expression for the spectrum of gustiness for strong winds in the lower layers is suggested:Cross‐spectra and cross‐correlations of velocity between pairs of stations on a mast are given. From this it appears that the cross‐spectra can be expressed as a simple function of the ratio of the vertical separation to the wavelength, no dependence on height being detectable.
