Mean meridional wind components in the troposphere are computed at five stations along the Equator. Their significance is discussed in regard to mass exchange between the hemispheres. The eddy transport of heat across the Equator is found to be negligible. The possibility of seasonal exchange of heat between the hemispheres through meridional circulation across the Equator is discussed.
