Daily means of maximum temperature at Bidston over the 54 years 1900–53 have been examined and in them short periods of unseasonal warmth or cold have been found. Efforts to demonstrate the statistical significance of the anomalies met with difficulties which are outlined, but the results are tabulated and briefly compared with those of previous workers in this field.
