The nature and cause of the evening temperature discontinuity near the ground is discussed, evidence being given that this is a result of the commencement of dew formation. Regression equations for forecasting the temperature of discontinuity are given. Methods of forecasting the subsequent cooling are discussed, and a detailed procedure given for Northolt. The relation between screen and grass minimum temperatures is briefly discussed.
