Abstract Early in 1946, a small group of R.A.F. meteorologists took over the weather station at Balikpapan, on the east coast of Borneo. The airstrip was the half‐way house on the Singapore‐Darwin and Batavia‐Manila routes; aircraft touching down at this isolated point brought valuable information concerning the weather in regions normally off the beaten track. This paper is the record of the pilots' inflight reports and the observed meteorological phenomena at the airstrip.
