Abstract The application of Wilson's process of ion capture by falling drops is extended to the case of ice particles, and it is shown how the results differ from those with water drops. Although ice particles in clouds can operate in Wilson's process, arguments are given against this being the agency by which the separation of charge occurs in clouds.
