On the basis of the CLE. (1931) colour metric an expression is developed for the colour co‐ordinates and luminosity of a given light source seen at night through an atmosphere of known optical properties. This is applied to an observation on a mercury vapour lamp in a highly selective haze of the type sometimes called “blue fog”.
