There is limited information on the safe use of drugs in pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. While lithium is highly effective in the treatment of patients with bipolar disorder, concerns over drug safety might lead to lithium discontinuation, resulting in relapse during pregnancy or the perinatal period.
