Use of the opioid agonist medications methadone and buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder is associated with reduced risk of mortality, a systematic review and meta‐analysis has found. There was a greater than 50% reduction in risk of all‐cause mortality in periods of agonist use compared with periods of non‐use.
