Although selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants have a generally favorable safety profile, their use has been associated with abnormal coagulation and hemostasis, with literature reports of increased bleeding in some patients. This could increase the risk of bleeding in patients who have cardiovascular diseases such as atrial fibrillation, who are often prescribed anticoagulants for prophylaxis against stroke and SSRIs for depressive symptoms.
