Cohort study finds benzodiazepines do not increase risk of dementia

Use of benzodiazepines or similar drugs was not found to be associated with risk of subsequent dementia in a nationwide cohort and nested case‐control study of adults. Some users of benzodiazepines actually showed lower odds of developing dementia than nonusers, the researchers reported. Study results were published online April 7 in the American Journal of Psychiatry .
