Switching from another antipsychotic to aripiprazole was found to be generally safe and effective in a cohort study involving patients with chronic schizophrenia. Continuation of aripiprazole treatment at 6 months was more likely for patients who were subject to nondirect switching methods compared with direct switching, in which the previous antipsychotic was completely stopped as aripiprazole was started.
