Among Medicaid patients with opioid use disorder who were retained in buprenorphine treatment for at least 6 months, patients in treatment for the longest period of 15 to 18 months demonstrated the most favorable outcomes regarding hospitalization and filled opioid prescriptions, a retrospective cohort study has found. The only studied variable that did not show significant improvement with longer duration of buprenorphine treatment was opioid and nonopioid overdose, the researchers reported.
