A retrospective cohort study of hospitalized adults has reported that use of atypical antipsychotics was associated with lower risk of mortality or cardiopulmonary arrest than use of typical antipsychotics. Researchers did identify an increased risk of death or cardiopulmonary arrest in atypical antipsychotic users over age 65, however, and they urged caution regarding use of atypicals in any age group in the hospital setting. Study results were published online Nov. 19 in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society .
