In a finding contrary to treatment guidelines that discourage antipsychotic polypharmacy in the maintenance treatment of schizophrenia, a cohort study has reported that any polypharmacy combination reduced risk of psychiatric rehospitalization compared with antipsychotic monotherapy. The combination of clozapine and aripiprazole was associated with the lowest risk of rehospitalization, the researchers found. Study results were published online Feb. 20 in JAMA Psychiatry .
