Olanzapine shows modest effect in patients with anorexia nervosa

In what is believed to be the largest trial to date of a medication treatment for patients with anorexia nervosa, the antipsychotic olanzapine was more effective than placebo in promoting weight gain. No significant difference from placebo was seen in the psychological measure of obsessionality, however, the researchers found. Study results were published online Jan. 18 in the American Journal of Psychiatry .
