Patients who had a successful course of treatment for their first episode of schizophrenia and then discontinued medication tended to have poorer response to treatment after relapse and resumption on the same medication, a study involving 130 patients has found. The study results highlight the importance of continuity of care and relapse prevention in the treatment of schizophrenia, according to the researchers.
